How Weapon Mods and Weapon Parts Work in Gears of War: E-Day
How to unlock and buy Weapon Mods in Gears of War: E-Day, where Weapon Parts come from, and what happens if you fail to extract in Horde Siege.
Gears of War: E-Day adds a full Weapon Mod system to Campaign and Horde Siege.
Mods can make small statistical changes or alter how a weapon functions. The Coalition has shown examples such as a Perfect Reload mod and even a bayonet attachment for the Gnasher.
How to Unlock Weapon Mods
In Horde Siege, Weapon Mods are tied to class progression.
As you level a class, its progression track unlocks new loadout weapons, equipment and mods. Unlocking a Weapon Mod on the level track does not automatically equip it.
The mod must then be purchased using Weapon Parts.
How to Get Weapon Parts
You earn some Weapon Parts through class progression, but Horde Siege is the main way to get more.
Weapon Parts can be found during missions. The important rule is that your squad must successfully extract and complete the mission to keep the Weapon Parts collected during that run.
If you fail the mission before extraction, do not expect to bank the parts you were carrying.
Are Weapon Mods Shared Between Classes?
Yes, weapon customization is shared across Horde Siege classes.
If you configure a Prototype Lancer while playing Assault, the same weapon configuration can carry over when that weapon is available to another class.
This makes investing in frequently used weapons more valuable than treating every class as a completely separate gear inventory.
Armor Mods
Armor Mods improve the Gear rather than one specific weapon.
The Coalition has described effects such as:
- increased health
- larger ammo reserves
- faster weapon swapping
- special bonuses such as receiving Perfect Active ammo from executions
Tactical Gear Mods
Tactical Gear Mods upgrade a class's unique equipment.
These can change values such as cooldown or range and may add new effects to the class ability.
Because each class has its own Tactical Gear, these upgrades are a major part of building a class for higher Horde Siege difficulty.
Campaign Weapon Mods
Weapon Mods also exist in the Campaign, but the complete launch list, exact locations and best upgrade routes are not fully public yet.
Those guides should be written from verified launch gameplay rather than guessing from the multiplayer progression system.
