What is breeding in Palworld and how does it work?

Breeding lets you combine two Pals to produce an egg that hatches into another Pal. It is useful when you want a specific species, better passive skills, stronger hidden stats, or an easier route to a Pal that is difficult to capture in the wild.

To begin, place one male and one female Pal in a Breeding Farm and supply Cake. After the breeding process finishes, collect the egg and place it in an Egg Incubator. The normal species that hatches is determined by the selected parent combination, while inherited traits can vary between eggs.

Assign both parents to a Breeding Farm. The species you select determine the normal child produced by the breeding combination.

Place Cake in the Breeding Farm

Breeding requires Cake. Once the parents are assigned and Cake is available, the breeding progress bar begins filling.

Collect the egg

When breeding finishes, an egg appears inside the Breeding Farm. The egg type gives a general clue about the Pal that may hatch.

Incubate and hatch the egg

Move the egg to an Egg Incubator, wait for incubation to finish, and hatch the resulting Pal.

How breeding results are decided

Most parent pairs produce a fixed normal child. That means selecting the same two species normally returns the same child species, although the new Pal's gender, passives, active-skill inheritance, and stat rolls can differ.

Some combinations use special rules instead of the normal pairing logic. Certain Pals are also marked as same-species-only, meaning the calculator may show only that Pal paired with itself.

The Parents to Child tool is best when you already know which Pals you own. The Child to Parents tool is better when you know the Pal you want and need to find the easiest available parent pair.

Palworld breeding tips

  • Start with parents that already carry the passive skills you want, because offspring can inherit traits from either parent.
  • Avoid filling both parents with unwanted passives when you are trying to create a clean endgame build.
  • Use the reverse calculator to compare several parent pairs and choose the route that uses Pals already in your Palbox.
  • Keep enough Cake, Breeding Farms, and Egg Incubators available when producing multiple eggs for passives or stronger stat rolls.
