Palworld 1.0 Breeding Guide: Passives, IVs, Cakes and Raid Armies

Learn how breeding works in Palworld 1.0, including cakes, passive inheritance, IVs, active skills, incubators and fast raid-army setups.

Breeding in Palworld 1.0 can be used to create stronger combat Pals, improve base workers, transfer rare passive skills and prepare full armies for raid battles.

The system involves more than placing two Pals inside a Breeding Farm. Parents can pass down passive skills, hidden stat values and selected active skills. Different cakes, incubators, Pals and base passives can also make the process much faster.

This guide explains the complete breeding process, from hatching your first wild egg to producing a raid-ready Pal army.

1. Breeding Basics

You can begin using eggs before unlocking the Breeding Farm.

Egg Incubator

The Egg Incubator unlocks at level 10 and allows you to hatch Pal Eggs found while exploring.

Different egg sizes require different amounts of time. Large and Huge Eggs normally take longer than smaller eggs.

Incubation speed is also affected by temperature. Keeping an egg at the correct temperature reduces the time needed to hatch it.

You can change the incubation time through the world settings. Players who do not want to wait can reduce the setting or turn incubation time off completely.

Pal Essence Condenser

The Pal Essence Condenser unlocks at level 14.

It allows you to combine duplicate Pals of the same species to increase the rank of one selected Pal. Condensing improves combat stats and strengthens the Pal’s Partner Skill.

You currently need 48 additional Pals to reach the maximum rank:

  • 4 Pals for the first rank
  • 8 Pals for the second rank
  • 12 Pals for the third rank
  • 24 Pals for the fourth rank

Reaching four stars also increases all of the Pal’s Work Suitabilities by one level. This makes condensing especially useful for important base workers.

Breeding Farm

The Breeding Farm unlocks at level 19.

It is a large structure, so leave enough open space when planning your breeding base. Assign one male and one female Pal using the Monitoring Stand or by manually placing them inside the farm.

The breeding progress meter will begin filling, but the farm cannot produce an egg unless Cake is stored in its attached chest.

Cake does not spoil while stored inside the Breeding Farm.

The farm can hold up to 20 completed eggs. Breeding progress can continue after reaching this limit, but another egg will not appear until you collect at least one of the existing eggs.

2. How Breeding Results Are Chosen

Every Pal has an internal breeding value.

When two different Pals are bred, the game averages their values and selects the Pal closest to the result. Certain Pals also have unique breeding combinations that override the normal calculation.

Breeding two Pals of the same species normally produces another Pal of that species.

Because these breeding values are not displayed in the game, a current Palworld 1.0 breeding calculator is extremely useful. Do not rely on calculators made for older versions because many breeding values and combinations changed with the 1.0 update.

A calculator can help you:

  • Find the parents needed for a target Pal
  • Create a breeding path from Pals you already own
  • Move a rare passive onto another species
  • Check unique breeding combinations
  • Avoid wasting Cake on an invalid route

Select your target Pal first and then enter the useful Pals already inside your Palbox. The calculator should show the shortest available breeding path.

Use the Palworld Breeding Calculator

Already know the parents you want to breed, or the Pal you want to hatch? Use our Palworld 1.0 Breeding Calculator to check the resulting child or find every valid parent combination.

3. How Passive Inheritance Works

Passive skills are one of the main reasons to breed Pals.

The offspring can inherit passives from both parents. The parents’ passive skills are combined into one inheritance pool, and the game then rolls which passives appear on the baby.

For the best chance of receiving four specific passives:

  1. Choose the four passives you want.
  2. Split them between the two parents.
  3. Make sure neither parent has any additional passive skills.
  4. Continue breeding until the offspring inherits all four.

The four passives can be divided in any way. You can use two passives on each parent, three on one and one on the other, or another combination.

Duplicate passives do not improve the inheritance chance because the game only adds that passive to the pool once.

With four wanted passives and no unwanted passives in the pool, the normal chance of receiving all four is approximately 10%.

Avoid using parents filled with unwanted passives. Every additional passive makes it harder to produce the exact result you need.

4. How IV Inheritance Works

IVs are hidden values that affect a Pal’s Health, Attack and Defense.

They can be viewed by equipping the Ability Glasses, which display each value on a scale from 0 to 100.

A Pal with 100 IVs receives around a 30% bonus to that stat, making IVs important when preparing Pals for difficult raid battles.

Each IV is inherited separately. For every stat, the offspring has:

  • A 30% chance of inheriting the father’s value
  • A 30% chance of inheriting the mother’s value
  • A 40% chance of receiving a random value

When both parents have 100 in a particular IV, the offspring has a 60% chance of inheriting 100 for that stat.

Using two parents with strong IVs is therefore much better than relying on one perfect parent and one weak parent.

You do not always need to breed perfect IVs. Life Fruit, Power Fruit and Stout Fruit can increase a Pal’s Health, Attack and Defense IVs by 10 points each.

For most late-game projects, using fruits is faster than repeatedly breeding for perfect values.

5. How Active Skill Inheritance Works

Breeding can also transfer active skills.

This is useful for powerful attacks that do not have a corresponding Skill Fruit.

In Palworld 1.0, the offspring can inherit from the active skills currently selected on its parents. This is different from older versions, where the game could consider a much larger skill pool.

For the best chance of transferring one particular skill:

  1. Equip the wanted skill on one parent.
  2. Remove the other selected skills from both parents.
  3. Leave the wanted skill as the only selected active skill.
  4. Breed until the offspring receives it.

The baby has roughly a 50% chance of receiving a skill from the parents. If it receives one, the game selects it from the available parent skill pool.

Some species-exclusive attacks cannot be transferred through breeding. Check the skill before building an entire breeding line around it.

Most normal attacks can instead be taught with Skill Fruits. If a Skill Fruit exists, using it is usually easier than breeding the attack onto every Pal.

6. Every Breeding Cake and What It Does

Palworld 1.0 includes several cakes with different breeding effects.

Cake

Standard Cake can be produced at a Cooking Pot or a higher-level cooking station.

You need:

  • 5 Flour
  • 8 Red Berries
  • 7 Milk
  • 8 Eggs
  • 2 Honey

Milk can be produced by assigning Mozzarina to a Ranch. Eggs come from Chikipi, while Honey can be produced by Beegarde.

Honey is often the main bottleneck because it cannot be purchased as the other basic ingredients. Keeping one or more Beegarde working at a Ranch will help build a supply before starting a large breeding project.

Mushroom Cake

Mushroom Cake unlocks at level 30.

You need:

  • 5 Flour
  • 5 Mushrooms
  • 3 Cavern Mushrooms
  • 8 Eggs
  • 2 Honey

Mushroom Cake improves the chance that newly born Pals will have stronger stat values.

When an IV is inherited from one of the parents, Mushroom Cake can slightly improve the resulting value instead of copying it exactly. It is useful when gradually building a stronger breeding line.

It can help with IVs, but stat fruits remain the faster option once you can farm or purchase them reliably.

Vegetable Cake

Vegetable Cake unlocks at level 47.

You need:

  • 8 Flour
  • 8 Tomatoes
  • 7 Lettuce
  • 8 Eggs
  • 4 Honey

Vegetable Cake produces two eggs at once.

Use it when you need large numbers of the same Pal for condensing, farming or filling a raid army.

Extravagant Vegetable Cake

Extravagant Vegetable Cake unlocks at level 60.

You need:

  • 12 Flour
  • 8 Cotton Candy
  • 10 Potatoes
  • 6 Onions
  • 8 Carrots

This cake improves stat growth and greatly increases the chance of producing a Mutated Egg.

A normal Cake has roughly a 1% mutation chance. Extravagant Vegetable Cake increases this to around 3%.

Use this cake when your main goal is obtaining mutated Pals rather than copying an existing set of passives.

Special Cake

Special Cake unlocks at level 74 and is the highest-rarity breeding cake.

You need:

  • 20 Flour
  • 8 Caramel Cotton Candy
  • 15 Milk
  • 15 Eggs
  • 2 Mammorest Meat

Special Cake increases the chance that offspring inherit multiple passive skills from their parents. Since a Pal can have only four passive skills, it is especially useful for breeding offspring with four desired parent passives.

For a raid army, Special Cake can dramatically reduce the number of eggs required to obtain usable offspring.

7. How Mutated Eggs Work

Mutation is a Palworld 1.0 breeding mechanic that can produce a stronger Pal than the normal breeding result.

Mutated Eggs have a low chance of appearing with standard Cake. Extravagant Vegetable Cake significantly improves the chance.

Pals obtained from Mutated Eggs can have:

  • Stronger IVs
  • Mutation-exclusive passive skills
  • Alpha status
  • Powerful active skills
  • A stronger breeding result than the normal parent average

Mutation breeding is best treated as a separate project. Use Extravagant Vegetable Cake when hunting mutations and Special Cake when your priority is inheriting a particular passive setup.

8. How to Speed Up Egg Incubation

Several incubators become available as you progress.

Egg Incubator

The standard Egg Incubator hatches one egg and requires you to manage its temperature.

Electric Egg Incubator

The Electric Egg Incubator uses electricity but automatically keeps the egg at a suitable temperature.

It is more consistent than the standard incubator because you do not need to move heaters, coolers or the incubator itself for different egg types.

Large Incubator

The Large Incubator can hold multiple eggs and automatically maintains a suitable temperature.

It does not require electricity, making it useful for bases with limited power production.

Large-Scale Electric Egg Incubator

The Large-Scale Electric Egg Incubator combines multi-egg storage with automatic temperature control.

It requires electricity but is one of the fastest options before reaching the final technology tier.

Ancient Hatchery

The Ancient Hatchery unlocks at level 76.

It combines breeding and incubation into one structure. It automatically handles egg production and hatching at high speed while also improving the inheritance rate of rare skills.

The Ancient Hatchery also uses much less base space than operating several Breeding Farms and incubators separately.

It is the best end-game structure for large breeding projects.

9. Best Pals for a Breeding Base

Several Pals have Partner Skills that improve breeding or egg collection.

Braloha

Braloha is the most important Pal for reducing egg production time.

While Braloha is at your base, its Balmy Weather Partner Skill increases the breeding speed of Pals assigned to Breeding Farms.

The bonus begins at 20% and can reach 50% after fully condensing Braloha.

Multiple Braloha bonuses do not stack.

Grintale

Grintale can produce an additional egg when you collect an egg from a Breeding Farm.

Its Glaring Cat’s Eye Partner Skill gives a 50% chance at its lowest rank and up to a 75% chance when fully upgraded.

Keep Grintale in your party before collecting a large batch of completed eggs.

Broncherry

Broncherry gives collected eggs a chance to become Alpha Pal Eggs.

The chance increases as its Partner Skill rank improves.

Broncherry Aqua

Broncherry Aqua has a stronger version of the Alpha Egg effect.

It begins with a higher chance than regular Broncherry and is the better option when fully upgraded.

The Alpha Egg effects are marked as non-stacking, so filling the party with duplicate Broncherry will not continue increasing the chance.

Dynamoff

Dynamoff reduces egg incubation time while it is working at your base.

Its Electro-Massage Incubation Partner Skill reduces incubation time by 20% at its first rank and up to 40% after being fully upgraded.

The transcript may refer to this Pal as Dinossom, but the correct Pal for the incubation bonus is Dynamoff.

10. Best Breeding Passives

Three passive skills are especially useful for breeding bases.

Philanthropist

Philanthropist increases breeding speed by 100% when it is on a Pal assigned directly to a Breeding Farm.

Both parents can use Philanthropist, allowing the bonuses to stack for a total 200% increase.

Philanthropist also works alongside Braloha’s Partner Skill.

Babysitter

Babysitter increases egg production and incubation speed by 30% while the Pal is at your base.

For egg production, Babysitter does not appear to stack with Braloha. A high-rank Braloha should therefore be your main end-game egg production bonus.

Babysitter remains valuable for its incubation bonus and can be placed on a Pal working near your incubators.

It can also be combined with Dynamoff to improve incubation speed further.

Insomnia

Insomnia prevents a Pal from sleeping and allows it to continue working during the night.

This passive was called Nocturnal before Palworld 1.0.

Place Insomnia on breeding parents when you want them to continue producing eggs through the night.

Best Egg Production Setup

For the fastest normal Breeding Farm setup, use:

  • Philanthropist on both breeding parents
  • Insomnia when continuous night breeding is required
  • One fully condensed Braloha at the base
  • Enough Cake stored inside each Breeding Farm
  • Grintale in your party when collecting eggs

Remember that Philanthropist and Insomnia may enter the inheritance pool. When trying to inherit an exact four-passive combat setup, use clean parents instead or replace unwanted offspring passives later at the Pal Surgery Table.

11. Implants and the Pal Surgery Table

The Pal Surgery Table allows you to change passive skills and gender.

Reusable implants unlock specific passive options at the table. Once an implant is available, you can add its passive to compatible Pals by paying Gold Coins.

Other powerful passives are only available through Disposable Implants. A Disposable Implant is consumed after one use.

Disposable Implants can include:

  • Legend
  • Raid-exclusive passives
  • World Tree passives
  • Mutation passives
  • Other rare rainbow passives

The Ancient Relic Recycler becomes one of the best late-game sources of these items.

Implants remove much of the randomness from breeding. Instead of waiting for the perfect offspring, you can breed a Pal with strong IVs and the correct skills, then replace unwanted passives at the Surgery Table.

Changing a Pal’s Gender

Use a Pal Reverser at the Pal Surgery Table to change a Pal’s gender.

This is useful when you only have two suitable Pals of the same gender or when working with a species that appears much more frequently as one gender.

It is especially helpful for rare raid and legendary Pals.

12. Other Ways to Obtain Useful Passives

Breeding is not the only way to find strong passive skills.

Fishing

Pals caught through fishing can carry rainbow passive skills.

Green sparkles during fishing guarantee that the captured Pal will have a rainbow passive. You can then use that Pal to begin a new breeding line.

Dr. Brawn

Dr. Brawn can perform one experiment per in-game day on your active Pal.

The result can improve or reduce its IVs and may add or replace passive skills. Because the result is random, Dr. Brawn is not as reliable as implants or controlled breeding.

Yakumo

Yakumo increases the chance of encountering captured Pals with the same passive skills it carries.

This can help obtain useful normal passives in the wild. However, it does not reliably transfer species-exclusive passives such as Legend or other locked elemental passives.

Yakumo is less important after unlocking implants, but it remains useful earlier in the game.

13. Important Palworld 1.0 Breeding Restrictions

Not every Pal can be reached through normal crossbreeding.

Several boss and high-tier Pals have restricted combinations. Some can only be produced by breeding the same species together, while others require one specific unique combination.

This means older breeding paths may no longer work for Pals such as certain bosses and legendary species.

Before starting a long breeding project:

  1. Open an updated Palworld 1.0 calculator.
  2. Search for the target Pal.
  3. Check whether it has standard parent combinations.
  4. Check for a unique combination.
  5. Capture two members of the species when no normal breeding route exists.
  6. Use a Pal Reverser if both captured Pals have the same gender.

Once you have a valid male and female pair, you can breed duplicates for better IVs, passive inheritance and condensing.

14. How to Build a Strong Pal From Early-Game Parents

You can create powerful Pals even when starting with common early-game species.

Begin by entering your target Pal and all available Pals into a current breeding calculator. The calculator will show the generations needed to reach the target.

A long route may require several intermediate Pals, but every new offspring can be used as the parent for the next step.

When transferring a rare passive such as Legend:

  1. Find a Pal that already has the passive.
  2. Use a calculator to find a route toward your target.
  3. Breed until the next-generation Pal inherits only the wanted passive.
  4. Avoid keeping offspring with several unwanted passives.
  5. Continue moving the clean passive through the breeding path.
  6. Combine the final parent with the required partner for your target Pal.

Keeping a Pal with only the rare passive makes future breeding projects much easier.

If you already have a Disposable Implant for the passive, applying it through the Surgery Table will be faster.

15. How to Breed a Raid Army Fast

A raid army requires many copies of the same strong Pal.

The old method involved breeding hundreds of eggs while waiting for perfect passives, IVs and skills. Palworld 1.0 makes this much faster through Special Cake, implants and IV fruits.

Step 1: Choose the Raid Pal

Select the Pal you want to use and confirm that it has a valid breeding route.

Check whether any required active skill is species-exclusive or available through a Skill Fruit.

Step 2: Choose Two Good Parents

Look for parents with:

  • High Health IV
  • High Attack IV
  • High Defense IV
  • Few unwanted passives
  • The correct active skill when required

Parents do not need to be completely perfect because implants and fruits can fix most problems.

Step 3: Prepare the Passive Pool

Decide which four combat passives you want.

Split those passives between the two parents and remove or replace unwanted passives at the Pal Surgery Table.

The cleanest inheritance setup contains only the four wanted passives across both parents.

Step 4: Prepare the Active Skills

If the raid build requires an inheritable skill, leave it selected on one parent and remove the other selected skills.

When a Skill Fruit exists, teach the skill directly instead of relying on inheritance.

Step 5: Improve the Parents’ IVs

Use:

  • Life Fruit for Health
  • Power Fruit for Attack
  • Stout Fruit for Defense

Each fruit increases the relevant IV by 10.

Improving both parents gives each offspring a much better chance of inheriting strong values.

Step 6: Use Special Cake

Place Special Cake inside the Breeding Farm to improve the chance of inheriting several parent passives.

This can produce multiple raid-ready Pals in a single batch instead of requiring hundreds of eggs.

Step 7: Hatch and Select the Best Results

Use the Ability Glasses to inspect every offspring.

Prioritise Pals with:

  • All required combat passives
  • High Attack IV
  • High Health and Defense IVs
  • The required active skill
  • Alpha status when useful for the build

You can use fruits and implants to correct otherwise strong offspring.

Step 8: Condense the Extras

Keep the best Pals for your raid team and use the unwanted offspring in the Pal Essence Condenser.

Because reaching four stars requires 48 additional Pals, the large number of extras from raid breeding will still be useful.

16. Best End-Game Breeding Workflow

The easiest late-game process is:

  1. Find a valid breeding route using an updated calculator.
  2. Choose parents with good IVs and few unwanted passives.
  3. Use implants to prepare the passive pool.
  4. Use Skill Fruits whenever possible.
  5. Improve parent IVs with Life, Power and Stout Fruits.
  6. Use Braloha to reduce egg production time.
  7. Use Special Cake for passive inheritance.
  8. Keep Grintale in your party when collecting eggs.
  9. Use Broncherry Aqua when hunting Alpha Eggs.
  10. Use Dynamoff and Babysitter to reduce incubation time.
  11. Hatch the eggs in large incubators or the Ancient Hatchery.
  12. Correct the best offspring with fruits and implants.
  13. Condense the remaining Pals to strengthen your raid army.

Breeding still contains some randomness, but Palworld 1.0 provides enough tools to remove most of the slowest parts of the process.

With the right parents, cakes, implants and breeding-base bonuses, a complete raid army can now be produced much faster than it could in earlier versions.
