Who is Peng Meng?
Peng Meng is an axe-wielding boss encountered during the first chapter played by invited press in October 2026. Coverage describes a particularly demanding early fight: his weapon reaches farther than Soul may initially expect, and his forceful attacks can punish attempts to stand too close for too long. CGMagazine calls him the first boss that made its reviewer seriously rethink their approach.
TheSixthAxis also identifies Peng Meng as a Mistwalker, an individual who has become corrupted. That gives the encounter a narrative role beyond a generic obstacle. We are keeping the story discussion spoiler-light because the retail game is not released yet.
Attacks and defensive approach
The evidence establishes heavy axe swings and substantial attack range, but not a complete frame-by-frame moveset. The most useful pre-release advice is to pay attention to the end of the swing, defend deliberately rather than trading hits, and recognise that long reach makes early attempts to escape at the wrong moment dangerous. Those are tactical interpretations of the previews, not tested instructions for every difficulty.
S-GAME says many enemies are designed with weapon and build counters. That suggests experimenting with an appropriate primary weapon and accessory if this fight becomes a wall, rather than assuming a damage-stat grind is required.
Confirmed reward: Dread Axe
Multiple independent hands-on previews explicitly report acquiring Peng Meng’s Dread Axe after winning the fight. It is a Phantom Edge, not a replacement for a main sword. Reviewers describe a held, charged strike that brings down the large axe with significant impact and guard-breaking potential.
The Dread Axe also destroys some chain-blocked passages. After unlocking it, revisit any chained gates or obstacles noted earlier in the chapter: the weapon serves as an exploration key as well as a combat option. Which individual paths can be opened and what they contain still require launch-version mapping.
What still needs verification
We do not yet have a reliable retail-game route, exact checkpoint name, boss health values, difficulty-specific timings or a complete reward screen. Those details will be added after playing the final build, instead of importing guesses from an unrelated build.
