Encounter overview
The Hunt is presented as a major duel in October 2026 hands-on footage. Previewers describe a weapon focused on chained blades and aggression. The fight is a useful test of Soul’s fundamental defensive rhythm: repeated attacks create pressure, but reacting impulsively can leave the player open to a follow-up swing.
First and second phases
Both TheSixthAxis and Epic Games Store report a second phase after the first health bar is depleted. IGN footage reported by GamingBolt on October 13 shows The Hunt growing two additional arms and holding four axes during phase two. In the earlier phase, he wields a chained pair and can turn a retreating backflip into a thrown-axe attack; the key lesson is that his evasive movement may still hide offence.
Crucially, both outlets report that dying during the second phase allowed a retry from phase two rather than requiring the entire first phase again. This is a preview-build observation; exact checkpoint behavior and difficulty restrictions should be tested in the release version.
Chain weapon and traversal reward
4Gamer’s hands-on report names the unlock as Hunter’s Chain Sickle. It describes mid- to long-range swings, with the blade tip dealing more damage than the connecting chain. Successful spacing therefore matters: blindly striking at maximum chain range does not necessarily produce the strongest hit.
The same preview reports using the chain weapon to catch distant traversal anchors and reach otherwise inaccessible paths. This makes the reward important for exploration. Mark any unreachable anchor you see before the fight so you can revisit it once the tool is available.
Counterplay and remaining unknowns
From the preview evidence, the sensible preparation is to enter with healing available, learn the first-phase timing without overspending resources and give yourself space to read the longer chain attacks. This is a reading of preview footage, not a claim of a proven retail boss strategy.
We still need final names for the second phase, exact telegraphs, a reliable encounter route, optional-versus-mandatory status and any non-weapon rewards.
