Gears of War: E-Day Cluckpuncher Guide – How to Get the Secret Chicken Gun
How to unlock the secret Cluckpuncher Chicken Gun in Gears of War: E-Day, with all seven egg-carton locations in Act 2: Hold the Line and the Gears of War 3 Cluckshot reference explained.
One of the best hidden weapons in Gears of War: E-Day is buried inside Act 2's huge Hold the Line district.
The weapon is called the Cluckpuncher, although you will also see players simply call it the Chicken Gun. It is a secret grenade-launcher-style weapon that fires explosive chickens instead of normal ammunition.
Getting it requires more than finding a hidden room. You need to destroy a series of egg cartons spread around Act 2, Chapter 2: Hold the Line. Each successful trigger produces a distinctive clucking sound, and after completing the full sequence the Cluckpuncher appears near the final location.
There are seven trigger locations to complete.
Important: some locations contain more than one physical egg carton. The route below is counting the seven Easter egg locations/interactions, not the number of individual eggs visible inside each refrigerator.
How to Unlock the Cluckpuncher
Start or replay:
Act 2 → Chapter 2: Hold the Line
You can destroy the egg cartons with a normal weapon. When you hit the correct cartons, listen for the chicken/clucking sound before moving on. If you do not hear it, check the refrigerator again and make sure the cartons have actually been destroyed.
Because Hold the Line changes as the story progresses, it is best to complete the Easter egg while clearing the district rather than leaving everything until the end.
1. Trapped Family Convenience Store
The first eggs are inside the building used for the Trapped Family Secondary Objective.
Enter the convenience store where the trapped civilians are located and go to the refrigerators at the back of the store.
Look at the lower row of the drinks refrigerator. There are two egg cartons sitting inside.
Shoot the cartons until they break and listen for the clucking sound confirming that the Easter egg has registered.
If you are already completing Trapped Family for the Side Piece achievement, grab this step before leaving the building.
2. Timgad Prime Gas Station
The second location is the Timgad Prime gas station store.
This is the same store where you can find the Trashies Cereal Box collectible during Hold the Line.
Enter the shop and walk all the way to the refrigerators along the back wall. Look inside for another pair of egg cartons.
Destroy them and wait for the cluck before leaving.
This is an easy one to combine with your collectible route because there is already a reason to search the store.
3. Downtown Major Burger
The third location is a Major Burger in Downtown Kalona during the larger Hold the Line exploration section.
This is the same Major Burger where the Vandalized Salvaging Poster collectible can be found.
Go inside and move behind the counter. Check the refrigerator in the staff area for the eggs.
Shoot the cartons and listen for the confirmation sound.
Do not confuse this with the other Major Burger restaurants around the map — several of them are part of this Easter egg.
4. Major Burger Between the Bank and Warehouse District
The fourth egg location is another Major Burger, this time positioned between the Bank of Tyrus and the Warehouse District.
Enter the restaurant and go behind the counter again.
Search the refrigerator in the rear service area and destroy the egg cartons inside.
Once you hear the clucking sound, you can move on.
5. Major Burger East of Victory Plaza
The fifth location is another Major Burger east of Victory Plaza, south of the previous restaurant.
There is also a Supply Cache inside this Major Burger, which makes it a useful landmark if you are following a Campaign completion route.
After entering the restaurant, head into the back/counter area and check the refrigerator for the next eggs.
Destroy them and make sure you hear the cluck.
6. Major Burger Near Black Raven Down
The sixth location is easiest to find while completing the Black Raven Down Secondary Objective.
Black Raven Down takes you toward a crashed Raven in the western side of the Hold the Line district.
Near the crash-site objective is another Major Burger.
Enter it before leaving the side-mission area, head behind the counter and check the refrigerator for the egg cartons.
Shoot them and listen for the confirmation sound.
If you are working toward all 17 Secondary Objectives, there is no reason to skip Black Raven Down, so this Easter egg step fits naturally into the same route.
7. Toys and Gift Store Near Victory Plaza
The final trigger is the unusual one.
Go northeast of Victory Plaza and find the Toys and Gift store.
Instead of looking for a refrigerator you can simply walk up to, look above the store for the open hole in the building.
The final eggs are hidden inside that opening.
Use a Frag Grenade or another explosive with a decent blast radius and throw it through the hole. If the explosion hits the hidden Easter egg trigger, you should hear the familiar clucking sound.
If you do not hear it, throw another explosive into a slightly different part of the opening.
Once the final trigger registers, look around the ground near the Toys and Gift store.
The Cluckpuncher will appear nearby, ready to pick up.
What Is the Cluckpuncher?
The Cluckpuncher is a joke weapon, but it is a fully usable one.
Instead of firing conventional grenades, it launches explosive chickens toward enemies. The chickens can travel and bounce before exploding, giving the weapon the same deliberately ridiculous feel as the older Cluckshot.
It is not part of the normal Campaign weapon progression. You find it by completing this hidden Easter egg sequence.
The weapon is also much easier to miss than a normal pickup because nothing in the main story tells you to start shooting cartons of eggs inside refrigerators.
The Gears of War 3 Cluckshot Reference
The Cluckpuncher is a direct callback to one of the most famous joke weapons in the series: the Cluckshot from Gears of War 3.
The Cluckshot looked like a modified Boomshot, but instead of launching normal explosive rounds it fired exploding chickens.
Gears of War 3 also had several chicken-related Easter eggs. One of the better-known routes involved a hidden chicken and a longer sequence of interactions that eventually rewarded players with Cluckshots.
E-Day changes the name to Cluckpuncher and builds the joke around smashing hidden egg cartons throughout Hold the Line, but the idea is unmistakably the same:
Gears gives you an absurdly powerful gun that fires chickens.
It is a nice reference for returning players because E-Day is set long before Gears of War 3, yet the developers have still brought back one of the series' strangest recurring jokes.
If the Cluckpuncher Does Not Appear
If you reach the Toys and Gift store and the weapon does not spawn, one of the earlier egg triggers probably did not register.
The easiest way to avoid this is to wait for the clucking sound at every location.
Recheck these places:
- Trapped Family convenience store
- Timgad Prime gas station
- Downtown Major Burger
- Major Burger between Bank of Tyrus and the Warehouse District
- Major Burger east of Victory Plaza
- Major Burger near Black Raven Down
- Toys and Gift building northeast of Victory Plaza
The two early stores contain multiple visible cartons, so make sure you completely destroy the eggs rather than firing a single shot and immediately leaving.
Also remember that Hold the Line changes as you progress through the story. If you have already passed a route that is no longer accessible, use Chapter Replay and run the sequence again.
