Campaign Early Access began on October 16, 2026 for eligible digital pre-orders. The unlocks become usable in Multiplayer and DMZ when the full game releases on October 23, 2026.

2. All Eight Base Operators You Can Unlock
The campaign awards eight playable Base Operators as you progress:
- Cho — Mayhem
- Dallas — Hired Gun
- Luca — Traffic
- Oh-Ji — Assassins
- Kal — Stranded
- Dunn — Counter Attack
- West — Entrenched
- Park — Greater Good
These are standard Operator unlocks, not bonus rewards for playing on Veteran or Realism. You can finish the campaign on a lower difficulty and still earn them.
3. Every XP Token and Cosmetic Reward
Beyond the eight Operators, you unlock:
- Three Double XP Tokens: Following Orders, Survivors and Decapitation.
- Two Double Weapon XP Tokens: Mission 11 and Escape.
- No More Rules Calling Card: Out in the Cold.
- Ready Line Loading Screen: Losing Ground.
- Gone Dark Emblem: Gone Dark.
Activision has not published a duration for each campaign XP token in its reward announcement, so check your inventory when they become available.
4. When Can You Use Campaign Rewards?
Modern Warfare 4's campaign rewards can be earned during Early Access, but Activision states that Multiplayer and DMZ use begins with the full October 23 launch. Operators appear in Operator selection; calling cards, emblems and loading screens appear in their respective customisation menus; XP tokens appear in your token inventory.
The story campaign is single-player, with AI allies rather than cooperative campaign partners.
5. How Long Does the Campaign Take?
Expect approximately 6–9 hours for a first story-focused playthrough, depending on difficulty and how thoroughly you explore. Chasing all 18 achievements or spending time with Stranded's optional caches and notes will take longer.
Realism is locked until you finish the story once. If you want the Was It Worth It? achievement, plan a second full playthrough on Realism.
6. What Should You Complete Before Leaving Each Mission?
Several missions contain optional challenges you can miss during a normal story run:
- Following Orders: Collect four notes and four contraband items; spare the civilians.
- Assassins: Plan separate attempts for Pacifist and Revenge.
- Stranded: Repair weapons at Base Camp, collect notes and Yellow Supply Crates, and handle the SAM Site reinforcements.
- Escape: Unlock safe 8410 to recover Gaz's Dog Tags.
- Entrenched: Earn 15 shotgun kills before securing the Target Building.
