Modern Warfare 4 Following Orders: All Notes & Contraband

Find all four notes and four contraband items in Following Orders, open the red toolbox, and unlock No Stone Unturned in MW4.

Following Orders, the third Modern Warfare 4 campaign mission, has four notes and four contraband items. Collecting every one unlocks No Stone Unturned. You do not need a world map: everything is inside the houses you visit during the mission.

The quickest route is to search the first house completely before questioning the residents, move through the second house, and pick up the remaining two notes in the third.

1. Following Orders Collectible Checklist

# Collectible Type Where to find it
1 Note From Your Friend Note Red toolbox, first house, first room on right
2 Heart medicine Contraband In the same red toolbox
3 MP3 player Contraband Wall cabinet in the first-house bathroom
4 Western novel Contraband Cabinet in the second room on the left
5 Baekseolgi-Tteok Recipe Note Kitchen's left cupboard
6 Extra rations Contraband Kitchen cabinet beside the recipe
7 Note From Your Neighbor Note Third-house bedroom cabinet beside the bed
8 Note From Mom Note Shelf in the cellar below the third-house kitchen

Missable warning: Do not leave the first house until both notes and all four contraband items are accounted for. These items also unlock extra dialogue options during the interrogation.

2. First House: Red Toolbox and Medicine

From the entrance, go into the first room on the right and open its storage cupboard. A red toolbox is inside. Enter 214 to unlock it, then read Note From Your Friend and confiscate the heart medicine.

The toolbox code is explained by the recipe in the kitchen, but you can use 214 immediately. It is also possible to shoot the lock. The medicine is especially useful because it creates a nonviolent dialogue route later in the mission.

3. First House: Bathroom, Bedroom and Kitchen

Return to the hallway and take the first door on the left into the bathroom. Check the wall-mounted cabinet for the MP3 player and confiscate it.

Next, enter the second room on the left. Open the cabinet for the Western novel. Interact with it to make sure it counts toward the contraband objective.

Finish in the kitchen. The left cupboard contains the Baekseolgi-Tteok Recipe; read it to register the second note. The adjacent cabinet contains extra rations, the final piece of contraband. The recipe's flour, water and raisin quantities form the red toolbox code 214 when you omit salt.

At this point you should have two notes and four contraband items.

4. Second House: No Collectibles Required

Proceed with Ko into the next house. Published mission walkthroughs do not list notes or contraband here, so concentrate on the objective and continue to the third house.

There is no reason to repeat the first-house search once you have confirmed the first six pickups.

5. Third House: Final Two Notes

Enter the third house and turn into the bedroom on the right. Check the storage beside the bed for Note From Your Neighbor. Read it rather than just opening the cupboard.

To reach the final note, find the spare key in the glass cabinet, then head into the kitchen and investigate the hatch in the floor. Follow the hatch interaction until the cellar is accessible. Drop below the kitchen and look on the wooden shelf for Note From Mom.

No Stone Unturned should trigger after the final note, provided you have already read the first three notes and confiscated every contraband item.

6. Earn No Harm Done in the Same Run

Because you have already collected the medicine, you can obtain the defector's location without injuring civilians:

  1. Speak to the wife and select “Please join your husband.”
  2. Choose “I will not ask again.”
  3. Question the husband with “Ask about South Korean medicine.”
  4. Choose “Give up the defector. Now.”

Avoid striking, shooting or physically threatening the residents. See the full No Harm Done guide for the dialogue route.

7. If No Stone Unturned Does Not Unlock

Double-check that you read each document rather than only opened its storage, and that you confiscated all four contraband pieces. The cellar note is easy to miss because it sits below the kitchen floor. If you have already advanced past a house without an item, replay the mission or an appropriate checkpoint.
